Pittsburgh Dataworks is a consortium of Pittsburgh-based companies, universities, economic development organizations and local government coming together to help establish Pittsburgh as a “Big Data Savvy” city ready to participate in the economic opportunities created by the growth in big data applications and technologies.
Our goal is to help:
- Public, private and community organizations adopt data analytics by bringing together developers, data scientists, multi-disciplinary experts and investors
- Individuals develop careers and entrepreneurial ventures in data science by providing access to big data education, tools, and experts
Current in-flight projects launched by Dataworks include:
- Pittsburgh Open Data Portal for City of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County - Dataworks initiated the idea for this project which is now being actively adopted and pursued by teams at City and County offices
- Pittsburgh High School Data Challenge - A 6 week team challenge between 4 area high schools - Bethel Park, Ellis School, Shaler and Sewickley Academy - that teaches students about big data, gives them an opportunity to work on a data analysis project, visit area big data companies and hear from data scientists. The challenge concludes with an awards ceremony.
